1.12 Push Me Higher

Siblings Lynx and Epiphany Law get along sometimes...

...but usually, Epiphany would rather team up with their other sister, Astral, to antagonize him.

"No boys allowed!" they sneer and giggle, after they had the audacity to lure him over to the treehouse with promises of board games only to dump water on him when he tried to climb up.

"I didn't want to go in your stupid girly fake house anyway," Lynx grumbles.

Their eldest sibling, Ivy, grows weary of playing peacemaker when their parents are working long hours. "Why did you trash all of Pippy's files on your computer?"

"To teach her a lesson!" Lynx huffs. "She won't let me use it! She says it's on her side of the room!"

"I thought Mom and Dad talked to her about that..."

"Yeah well she's still being a bitch."

"Lynx! You can't call anyone that, okay? Not ever."

"Yeah I can. I just did."

Rock wants to enforce concepts like getting along and sharing, but Fairuza tries to shortcut through the problem by purchasing a second desk and computer for their son. Now Lynx and Epiphany do not have to share.

Lynx finds random people in online games to be far better playmates than his sisters.

Without Epiphany to insist the computer is hers, Lynx spends every scrap of spare time honing his PC gaming skills and networking with other gamers.

Life outside of the games is not fulfilling in any way, but inside the games, he is a god.

Epiphany has a more socially acceptable hobby.

She wants to be an illustrator.

And of course Astral has her music.

With the drums nearly mastered (according to her, anyway) Astral has begun to branch out to other instruments. "Boys love a woman who can play guitar," she insists.

Lynx joins a raid team. They do the fastest timed runs on his server.

"What a nerd," his sisters snicker.

"He'll have different priorities when he gets older," Rock assures Fairuza that Lynx's behavior is nothing to be concerned about. "Just let him be a kid. Let him go through this phase. Like Astral and her dragons."

Fairuza rolls her eyes. "It's my day off and I'm taking all of the kids to the park. He's not skipping out on real life just because he had 'virtual plans'."

"Those virtual plans were plans made with real people," Rock points out.

"He's a kid and I'm his mother. Until that changes, I can cancel any of his plans."

Lynx finds it difficult to enjoy his snowcone. His raid team doesn't know he's a kid, so they'll just think he's flaky, and finding another healer to replace him last second is going to be difficult, and the team leader is going to be pissy...

"Hey, I'm Brooke Valstrom," a girl randomly introduces herself.

Lynx stares blankly at her. "Yeah... I know... we go to school together."

"Whatever. My Mom says that to make friends, all I have to do is walk up to people and say hi, my name's Brooke, but clearly she's full of shit."

Lynx smiles.

Not only do both kids think their mothers are full of shit, both kids read HeroDude comics.

Rock is relieved to see his son socializing positively with someone.

"Higher!" Astral shrieks. "Push me higher!"

Brooke has to leave shortly thereafter. Lynx gets a turn being pushed on the swings.

Epiphany and Fairuza are here too, but I didn't get many pictures of them, oops.

The three younger Law siblings temporarily forget they hate each other.

Today was the very last hoorah of summer.

The seasons are about to change.
